SILVER SUNDAY 2018– PREVENTING LONELINESS & CARING FOR THE ELDERLY
On 7th October, London Chinese Community Centre held the annual “Silver Sunday” event aiming to get more seniors out and about in order to integrate into society and prevent loneliness. On the day, there was Tai Chi, folk music, folk dance, calligraphy demonstrations, and other wonderful activities. The event attracted more than 30 of our elderly community who had a great time participating.
The mayor of Westminster, Lindsey Hall, was also in attendance. She personally tried to paint some Chinese characters, tasted the dim sum and took a group photo with the elderly.
Tai Chi master, John Leung, who has been teaching at the community centre for 6 years, noted that more and more elderly and young participants are beginning to recognise Tai Chi as a health-friendly activity.
In addition to cultural and recreational activities, the Chinese Community Centre also provides free welfare services, legal counselling, English classes and other benefits to the public. It is a charity that serves the Chinese community wholeheartedly.
